On April 18, 2026, HbcCare joined the Bengali New Year Festival in Calgary, hosted by the Bangladesh Canada Association of Calgary (BCAOC), to bring liver health awareness and free FibroScan screening directly into the community.
Overall event coordination was led by Irfan Hyder from HbcCare. In collaboration with KNS Canada and Fatty Liver Alliance, the event offered liver health education, printed materials in Bangla and English, one-on-one discussion with a liver specialist, and free non-invasive screening in a welcoming community setting. The event was held one day before World Liver Day, making the outreach especially timely.
The response from the community was strong. Around 400 people visited the booth throughout the day, and 96 FibroScan assessments were completed. Community members showed strong interest in learning about fatty liver, liver stiffness, and general liver health. Several participants were also found to have elevated liver stiffness that may require follow-up, highlighting the value of community-based screening and education.
The event was made possible through the support of KNS Canada, Fatty Liver Alliance, Dr. Mayur Brahmania, and a dedicated team of 10 volunteers from both the community and the University of Calgary.
This event reflected HbcCare’s broader goal of making liver health awareness, screening, and support more accessible in the communities where people live, gather, and build trust.
